Workshop Descriptions

Breastfeeding 101

Breastfeeding is a natural process, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy.  Breastfeeding education before your baby arrives will help you feel more prepared when you bring your baby home.  Creating a positive nursing relationship begins in the first hours after birth, and continues in the days, weeks, and months that follow.  In this course, Abby teaches you the basics so you can steer your breastfeeding journey with calm confidence.

What you'll learn:

  • How can I prepare for breastfeeding before my baby is born?
  • What’s a good latch, and how can I help my baby latch properly?
  • What are the best and most comfortable breastfeeding positions?
  • Is my baby getting enough milk?
  • Can I breastfeed and go back to work or school?
  • How does breastfeeding change over the first days, weeks and months of my baby’s life?
  • What resources are available for a healthy breastfeeding journey?

Breastfeeding Challenges

Breastfeeding journeys look different for everyone, and new moms face a variety of hurdles.  It’s crucial to know information before problems surface, so you’re more prepared in the moment. In this class, Abby will educate you about the issues that can occur while breastfeeding, how to resolve them, and when to reach out for help.

What You'll Learn:

  • How much milk am I producing?
  • How can I soothe (and prevent) sore nipples?
  • What are plugged ducts and how can I relieve them?
  • What’s mastitis, and when do I need to see a doctor?
  • Why is my baby refusing to nurse?
  • Can I drink alcohol, take medication, and use supplements while nursing?
  • What help is available when these issues won’t resolve on their own?

Back to Work and Pumping

Returning to work can be challenging for any parent.  On top of adapting to new motherhood, the prospect of navigating employer relationships and balancing work with pumping is daunting.   But pumping at work doesn’t have to be stressful, and with the right information and equipment, moms can be successful!  In this course, Abby will teach you how to create a healthy breastfeeding work environment, pump and properly store your milk, and help your caregiver bottle-feed your baby.

What You'll Learn:

  • How can I talk to my employer about pumping?
  • Where can I pump in privacy while at work?
  • What legal rights do I have as a breastfeeding employee?
  • How can I maximize the amount of milk I pump?
  • How can I ensure my baby takes a bottle with his caregiver?
  • How should I store pumped milk while at work (and at home)?
  • What resources are available for breastfeeding mothers who work?

This bundle is for:

  • Pregnant and soon-to-be parents
